Love is in the air at Casa de Kolchak!
I’ve been making batch after batch of human cupcakes as a part of the National Cupcake Day for SPCAs and Humane Societies. (We’d love to have you join our team and raise some much needed funds for shelter pets!) Even though my efforts are for a good cause, Kolchak has been making it pretty clear that he’d love it if I made some dog treats. This is a dog blog after all.
I agreed that dog treats are definitely in order, ASAP.
Chicken was on sale at our local grocery this week, so I knew exactly what dog treat recipe I wanted to make: Chicken Hearts
These treats are super easy and they’re a Casa de Kolchak favourite. With two versions, a baked one and a frozen one, there’s bound to be a treat every dog will love, no matter what the season.
For the baked treats you need:
Silicone Heart Mold (ours is good in the oven or the freezer)
1 cup cooked, finely diced chicken
1/2 cup rice, cooked & mashed
3 tablespoons rice flour
1 tablespoon parsley
1 egg
Preheat oven to 350F.
Mix together all ingredients and stir well. Spoon into silicone moulds. Bake for 20 – 30 minutes, until tops are golden brown. Allow to cool and remove from molds. Store in fridge.
For the frozen treats you need:
Silicone Heart Mold (ours is good in the oven or the freezer)
1 cup cooked, finely diced chicken
1/2 cup rice, cooked
1 cup chicken stock
1 tablespoon parsley
In a blender or food processor, blend together all ingredients. Spoon into the silicone molds and place in freezer until solid.
(Kol’s Note: Not fussy about how they look? Just mix the chicken, rice & parsley together, spoon it into the molds, then pour stock over them. They taste just as good with half the work!)
Hopefully, if I whip up a batch of these tonight , Kolchak will forgive me for all these human treats I’m making.
Are you doing anything special for your furry Valentine?
